Three bands were booked into the bar for a Pride week celebration and nobody showed up, maybe because it’s always Pride week in Canada, far as I can tell. The night began with an otherwise very nice person who sat at a piano and talked at length about his or her or their struggles with ADHD among a laundry list of other disabilities that aren’t real, not to mention all that Hate, which is also mostly imaginary.
The headliner was a band from Vancouver whose soundcheck I enjoyed, but I didn’t stick around for their set because I was ruthlessly driven out of my own venue by the middle performer, the biggest name on the poster, really, since he’s a local guy with enormous chemical tits and a big mouth and a platform.
A hero, in other words, to people like my dear friend B. He was in his element, pumping up this artist to anyone who would listen, or to no one, as it happened, cause no one besides B could give a shit about anarchist-transgender acoustic punk delivered by an angry narcissist (as is the custom.)
Anyway, this guy—and he is a guy—was not without talent even if it was used entirely in the service of such a catastrophically stupid progressive religion. Gender ideology has been an A-bomb dropped on Canadian society otherwise reeling from managed economic decline and a host of top-line policies and priorities that put a “kind” face on a mounting body count. (MAID, harm reduction, billions to Ukraine, mRNA boosters, get yours now.)
So anyway, this dumbass with the guitar stomped his feet and growled and bellowed very manfully over a wearying rhythm pattern that repeated for almost the entire set. The mood changed a little for his tribute to Luigi Mangione, which was prefaced by a rant and an unambiguous call for more politically-motivated killings.
B made a weak plea that it was “ironic”, but no. This is ironic: in Canada right now, Angry Manboobs will not be troubled by the RCMP for his little outburst of free speech, nor should he be, no matter how vile and misguided the comment, but I could get a visit for hitting Save & Publish on this post.
